The Annual Forum on Geodesy, hosted by the General Commission for Survey (GCS), convened at the GCS Head Office in Riyadh on Thursday 07/02/1437H, corresponding to 19/11/2015G. The Forum was called for the main purpose of briefing the government agencies and academic institutions of concern on the development and updating of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF), besides informing them on the GCS work activities and products.
After the opening recitation from the Holy Quran, GCS president Dr. Abdul Aziz Ibn Ibrahim Al-Saab welcomed the guests from the government agencies and from academia in an opening address in which he stressed the importance of the Forum. The GCS president also expressed deep thanks and highest regards to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, HRH the Crown Prince and HRH the Deputy Crown Prince for providing continuous support to the General Commission for Survey praying to Allah to preserve the Kingdom’s Leadership and to keep our homeland safe from every mishap. Professor Zuhair Al-Tamimi then took the floor and delivered a lecture on the development and updating made to the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) and how the Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) are connected to this international geodetic reference. Dr. Bandar Al-Muslmani gave a briefing on the national network of Continuously Operating Reference Stations, followed by a briefing by Engineer Othman Al-Kherayef on the National Vertical Network. Engineer Kojan Arsalan briefed the audience on the National Gravity Network and Dr. Mohammad Amin Aeyhan briefed them on the Geoid. Finally, Dr. Rossen Grebenchasky briefed the Forum attendees on the on-going work aimed at computing and determining the vertical reference.
