On the approval of HRH Crown Prince Salman Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, Chairman of the GCS Board of Directors, the General Commission for Survey will celebrate the World Hydrography Day at Albilad Hotel in Jeddah on 25th of Sha'ban 1435H, at 10.00 hrs. under the theme of " Hydrography is Much More than Just Nautical Charts". The event is being marked simultaneously by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and all member countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the GCS, to stress the implications of the above-quoted theme selected by the IHO for the 2014 World Hydrography Day which coincides with the 93rd anniversary of the International Hydrographic Organization.
GCS is pleased to invite specialists and concerned professionals in the Kingdom to participate in the event and have a firsthand impression of the GCS activities and projects completed including the completion of Hydrographic survey projects and the production of electronic and conventional nautical charts including the a chart for Jeddah Islamic Port produced by GCS this year.
Observing the World Hydrography Day is aimed at promoting public awareness of the importance of hydrography, nautical charting and the role of hydrographic surveyors in providing a vital and indispensable global service to maintain the safety of international shipping and support other maritime activities.
